Deposit Composition Analyses
The Sheppard T. Powell Associates, LLC (STPA) laboratory has the expertise to handle and analyze deposit samples from a variety of systems and equipment – such as steam/water cycles (HRSG units, boilers, deaerators, turbines, etc.), cooling water systems (towers, condensers, piping, etc.), makeup water systems, bottom ash systems, boiler and HRSG firesides, etc. Many laboratories are limited to being able to perform only SEM/EDXS analyses for deposit samples, which is necessarily a semiquantitative method. In addition to SEM/EDXS analyses, STPA also performs and has extensive experience with quantitative analyses of deposit samples, digestion in acids and compared to standards on an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. This has been found to be particularly useful for ensuring an accurate assessment of deposit composition prior to chemical cleaning.
